About MacFarlan Masonry

The History

Having finished the stonemasons course at Weymouth college in the mid 1990's Ben gained employment on Portland, Dorset. There he fine tuned his banker skill set on various projects which included the British Museum Reading Room courtyard. From there he also learnt about site work and fixing, understanding the processes involved in taking a raw block of stone, carving it and seeing it right through to it being fixed into place. A year in Australia working mainly in Sydney and stints in Scotland, Wales among various other places in the U.K. have given him a broad understanding of how best to approach stonework and the critical elements in achieving the best finish. However the stone industry is huge and varied, so there are always new things to learn.
